Growing Does:

We try to get our does up to at least 40lbs before we breed, so to get them up to breeding weight we feed 1-2 flakes in the morning with our mixed grain, in the afternoon we give grass pellets, and at night we give more of our grain mix.

NOTE: We do not breed our does if we feel they are too small, we care greatly about them and don't want something to happen to them. We want them to be a certain weight as do we want them to be an appropriate size.

**All goats get 50% alfalfa 50% grass hay in the morning**

Care

Hoof Trimming:

We do this every 4-8 weeks (depending on how bad they need done)

Vaccines:

CD&T

-We do this once a year plus booster. 2 ml/cc for each goat.

Worming

        - We use ivermectin injectable ORALLY 1 ml/cc for every 50lbs. We try to do this 2-3 times a year. Not on a schedule, just when they need it.

Supplements:

Minerals:

-Fresh free choice minerals out all the time for all the goats. (Plus they have free choice baking soda)

Selenium & Vitamin E:

        - I give the goats a Selenium & Vitamin E paste every 2 months. Our vet suggested every 3 months but we choose to do 2.

ProBios:

        - The goats get this after they kid and before they go into the breeding pen.

Yeast:

        - Milking does get this sprinkled over their feed to help with digestion.

Kelp powder:

        - Milking does get this sprinkled over their feed.

EXTRAS

-All kids get a 20 day coccidian treatment before they leave. Why? Because we have had heart breaking experiences that lead up to us doing this.

-All kids will get disbudded at 2 weeks of age for their safety and yours.

Before Breeding/After Kidding

*This year (2022) we used CIDRs instead of the Flushing method*

Flushing

-Flushing is when you feed a higher amount of feed before their heat cycle to encourage fertility. It can increase the amount of eggs the doe's body releases, nothing extreme though. For example if your doe usually makes 2 kids she will make 3 when flushed. Or if she usually has 1 she will have 2.

-While the does are being flushed I make sure they get more selenium then usual.

Kidding

-After they kid I give the does molasses water, selenium, and ProBios.

-After a day or two I clean up the does back end so flys don't bother them or get an infection.

-If the kids are weak and can't stand in 1.5-2 hours of life I will give them selenium to perk them up and help them stand.

-If a doe has more then 2 kids I bottle feed the weakest/smallest one to make sure they get enough food.
